Public works performs many functions for the public – from maintaining, enhancing and operating infrastructure such as streets, signs, stormwater, utilities, facilities and fleet to responding to various emergencies. The staff of a public works can often vary in size to meet the public’s needs from as few as a handful to thousands, as is the case in Los Angeles County.
